Ready-Mix Concrete Truck Driver

Primary duty is delivering ready-mixed concrete and other associated products from batch plants to construction sites in a safe and efficient manner, while maintaining a clean and safe ready-mix truck.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  1. Safely loads and promptly delivers ready-mixed concrete to job sites as dispatched while maintaining positive customer and public relations.

  2. Effectively operates ready-mixed concrete truck by consistently following safety standards, delivery instructions and roadway signs for best routes to job sites.

  3. Performs related loading and unloading operations with ready-mixed concrete delivery truck in an efficient safe manner.

  4. Works outdoors under varied weather conditions and hours (Monday through Saturday) and as business conditions may require.

  5. Perform regular cleaning inside of cab and keeps clean and sanitary. Cleans outside of concrete drum and truck as required.

  6. Follows order and delivery instructions received from dispatchers regarding concrete mix, delivery address and conditions.

  7. Prepares truck for delivery and delivers product to job sites following USDOT and IDOT regulations. Rinses chutes and rear of truck free of spilled concrete and returns truck to batch plant following EPA regulations. Assists in concrete block molds and production.

  8. Treats job site personnel with a customer-friendly attitude. Addresses concerns in a diplomatic manner. Communicates customer needs back to batch plant personal in a respectful manner.

  9. Performs pre-trip vehicle safety inspection and reports findings to dispatcher at beginning and end of each shift.

  10. Performs other functions and duties as required or directed.

Qualifications Required:

Education, experience, and skills: Requires High School diploma, GED or equivalent education and appropriate CDL license with good driving record to maintain insurability. Must be knowledgeable about and follow all relevant USDOT, environmental, and traffic laws. Must have appropriate heavy truck drivers training and understand the specific operating functions and controls for a ready-mixed concrete truck. Must have English language reading and writing abilities in order to understand written safety guidelines, job orders and performance standards. Must have good vision and ability to recognize differences in product mix. Must be dependable, on time, well organized, safety minded, and have efficient work habits. Must be able to pass DOT medical examination.

 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

Must be able to climb in and out of truck 50+ times per day when delivering concrete. Shifting gears on truck requires coordination of hands and feet. Must be able to climb ladder on back of truck to check product and drum and to add materials. Must be able to pull down main chute on truck, attach up to three more chutes weighing in excess of 40 pounds, guide chutes as needed, and clean and lift chute from ground to return chute to its stored position. Regular walking, standing, climbing, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing and lifting activities are required for this position. Work is performed outdoors and truck is operated under seasonal weather conditions including summer heat, winter cold and other conditions like rough, muddy or icy job site surfaces. The environment also includes varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust and dirt at operating sites.
